Sports eat politics or the other way round?

Really, this is what I wrote on Twitter the other day..

Since when does a Prime Minister dabble with business hiccups that affects the pastime of the general public?

Is it because the Prime Minister pulled the plug on SBS's funding leaving the public to go to Optus for their World Cup fix?  Therefore it may appear as a political fix by openly voicing his attention to a glitch by Optus.

What does this apparently harmless tweet tell us about the political landscape and societal culture?
